Kratho smara Krutham smara

The prayer of the individual to remind God looks absurd as nothing can escape the all pervasive vision of the lord. He is all knowing; we need not remind him with our appeals and entreaty as he is the all knowing 'Brahma'. Is there anything that need be told him? Is it necessary to call him who is omnipresent? Even if the devotee calls him the very word of coming in connection with him as coming is possible only for those who are not present? One who is omnipresent and all knowing, cannot be made to know anything by one's prayer and cannot be made to come to help him in distress.
The Karma of the mortals is like a vessel in the ocean of life. We are bound in this and our life is defined by this. We are living in a world of words. Our world is made up of our own expressions. We are the only going to pay for the good and bad of it. We have to proceed and act to the extent of the possibility of our own mind. We have to overcome the limits laid down by our own mind.

They also serve who stand and wait

Rationalists criticize worshipping of idols of stone and metal and the belief of people in such worshipping. They do not approve of people being sentimental, superstitious and getting steeped in paganism. They argue that the idols are not God. What we worship is only a piece of metal or stone and our prayer in the absence of proper knowledge is mere sentimentality. They feel that there is nothing more than what you and me can see in them. Our belief is sentimentality and this is the belief which is often called blind belief or superstition.
This is what the opinion of the colonialists is about our rituals and worshipping. But let us not lose ourselves in the truthfulness or otherwise of such arguments...Read more

The order and the creation

Following is the excerpts from the speech of His Holiness Shri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji delivered in Shri Krishna Vrindavanam Sanjose on the occasion of " Navaratri Festivities". The present topic of the supremacy of Lord Shri Hari is one among the nine topics elaborated by Shri Swamiji.
Some arc led to believe that Shri Madhwacharya propounded the theory of the Supremacy of Shri Hari in order to suppress the arguments of others who sought to establish the supremacy of the parallel deities. They are under the impression that there are several pantheons trying to establish different theories and Shri Madhwacharya is one of them. This is gross misinterpretation and it is undermining the significance of the Shri Madhwacharya's point of view...Read more

Ego - Can we get rid of it

"Do not attach your worth to something that can be taken away" -Emerson "I am that"—the cause of all ego
Even before you were born, you were given a name. It is not uncommon for parents to search the internet, refer to books to find a name for that angel to be born. In other words, right from your birth you were associated with an identity.
The "I" in you becomes "I am" and "I am that" even before you were born. You were made into an "I am that."
"I am that" is what gets manifested as Ego. As you move on through life, the branding and the label that gets tagged along comes with its own set of characteristics. If you truly get attached to these characteristics, ego flares up...Read more

Acharya Madhwa

Brief Introduction to Acharya's Works
It has been generally said that Acharya Madhva had authored 37 works. It has also been believed that if one took it into account the prayer 'Kandukastuti’ ,said to have been composed when Acharya was a small boy and was playing with a ball, The total number of works authored by him would come to 38. But in the course of my rummaging of palm-leaf manuscripts for more than ten years, I happened to come across two more works which had not been known so far.
Though these additional works arc small in size they arc of great historical significance. One of them is ‘Nyasapaddhati’, a treatise prescribing the duties of a Yati or Sanyasin and elucidating their duties of everyday life. The other one is 'Tithi-nirnaya’...Read more
